Elevation: Sample GVY #22

One of my long time favorite polish companies is Elevation. Over the years that I have purchased from them, they have been very consistent with customer service, formula, and their launch dates are the same each month. This is a company that I stalk for every launch, and sit online waiting for the new shades, samples and sbps to be available.

The polish I'm sharing today is a sample, which means it was only available once and in a very small quantity of one to three bottles. Luck was on my side at the time it was listed. It's a beautifully done brown holo with golden shimmer. The formula was perfect and opaque in one coat.

After I wore it a few days, I double stamped over it with a Vivid Lacquer plate design that was custom made for me - and is available to everyone on plate number 14. I used my GPS jumbo stamper and MDU stamping polishes in #33 and #43. I love how it turned out, and wore it for the remainder of the week last week.

HPB Presents: Holiday Manis

What is Jen up to with this mess of nail supplies?

xoxoJen's Holiday nail art supplies 2014

She's doing a special mani for the Hobby Polish Bloggers' holiday link up!

Hobby Polish Bloggers is a group of nail bloggers on Facebook. We're a diverse group who help each other discover new ways of getting the blogging done, sharing feedback when asked, and growing our friendships inside and outside the group. Each and every lady in our group is special and supportive of each other and we each contribute in different ways.

The theme for December is Holiday manicures. I've created some nail art to share some of my holiday memories!

The first nail reminds me of the snowstorm a few years ago on Christmas Eve when Jason and I ended up spending the night at my mom's because there was so much snow, we couldn't even back out of the driveway.

The second nail is Santa's suit which reminds me of Christmas's past when my grandpa would dress up in the Santa suit my grandma made for him. He'd hand out presents to my sister and I every Christmas.

The third and fourth nails are a Christmas tree and a gift, which are always a part of our holidays - past, present and future.

Cupcake Polish: December Sweet Addictions Box

Cupcake's December Sweet Addictions Box theme is Frosty the Snowman and features an all-holo lineup from Elevation Polish, Chaos & Crocodiles and of course, Cupcake Polish.

xoxoJen's collage of December Sweet Addictions Box

Elevation's polish is called Eyes Made of Glimmering Coal. It has a charcoal base and is jam packed with holographic and iridescent pigments. I used two coats, which applied like butter, and topcoat for the photos.

Chaos & Crocodiles there's magic in the air is a beautiful shade of straight up blue linear holographic polish. The formula was smooth and was easy to control during application. I wore two coats with topcoat, but may have gotten away with just one coat had I applied a heavier coat.

Merry and Bright is Cupcake's polish in this box. It's a pretty red holo with gold shimmer which makes the overall effect lean a little coppery/orange-ish. This polish also has teeny tiny red glitters throughout and was surprisingly smooth after applied! I wore two coats and topcoat for the photos.

The Sweet Addictions box for December will be available on Sunday, November 30th at 11am CST at Cupcake Polish's online shop.

Simples Weeks 3, 4, and 5

A few posts back
I introduced you to Simples, a nail art group on facebook that's lead by Debbie from The Crumpet blog. Debbie's aim is to teach various simple nail art techniques and help us master them. The group is really laid back and with only one tutorial to try out per week, it's really easy to join in. There's no obligation to do the week's mani every week and you can join in at any time! Debbie's videos are very informative and she even shares her tips and tricks with us! Really, come on over and join - you can lurk if you like, but I would love to see all your creations after a tutorial has been posted!

For the third week the theme was ombre nails. I've seen them done up on other blogs so beautifully, but never tried it myself. For this mani I chose to use the original shade of Sinful Colors called Dream On. My thumb nail is the original color and then moving from index to pinky I made that polish into an ombre by adding more and more drops of white to the polish for each nail. I used tin foil to mix on, but any durable surface will work. So, how'd I do?

Afterward I took a cue from Jenna, who added shimmer to her ombre, and topped mine with Pure Ice Busted and then a matte top coat.

The fourth week's theme was the saran wrap mani. Depending on the technique you use, this one may have fine marks from a tight crumple or more of a smooshed look from a loose crumple. You can also control the amount of polish picked up off the top layer by how many times you dab the wrap. Alternatively, a plastic bag or bubble wrap can be used or perhaps stiff tissue paper or gift wrap. Anything that crumples fairly easily.

The saran wrap mani was a bit daunting to me at first, but I dove right in. When planning out my mani for this, I cut and crumpled a different piece of wrap for each nail to help minimize clean up but you can use the same piece if you prefer. I used Nfu-Oh 51 for the base color and Dance Legend 12 (Android) for the effect. I was shocked at how much I loved my result and how easy it was to do! I took eleventy billion pictures of the mani, but I'll spare you the load time and just share my favorite three. :)

For the fifth week, which just began Saturday, the tutorial is the dotticure. I had fun following Debbie's video tutorial which was very easy to follow with step by step instructions. She also shows you how to avoid stringy, hollow, and misshapen dots.

For mine, Jason chose (he's my man, and this is also for the "he picks my polish" group!) Elevation's El Cap II as the base color which is light blue with purpley shimmer which makes it look periwinkle, or is it blue..hmmm... and Sinful Colors Unicorn for the dots. I jokingly called this mani "Unicorn on the Mountain" in my post at the group. -snortle-

I love how this turned out, but I'm a little distracted from my results by the Elevation polish. If you don't have it, you need it. If you've not ever tried Elevation, you neeeeeeeed to! The polish goes on like syrup. It's so easy to control that I didn't need to do any clean up - and for me, that's rare! :D

The Simples group is so much fun! I've enjoyed it so far and look forward to learning even more! I'd love it if you join and show me your results!

Simples: Nail Art from Muggle to Mastery

I have joined a new group on Facebook lead by Debbie from The Crumpet blog, its called SIMPLES: Nail Art from Muggle to Mastery. Debbie's aim is to teach various nail art techniques and help us master them. I've been dabbling in nail art but it is quite intimidating so I thought this group would be perfect! She shows one technique per week, and right now we just began week two.

For the first week, the tutorial was for the Accent Nail. I've used Smitten Radiant Orchid for three nails, and then Colors by Llarowe Young Turks topped with Elevation Pata Puffer II as the accent nail. I had a lot of fun choosing the colors and experimenting on a nail wheel for the accent nail. I really like how it turned out!

For the second week, which just began Saturday, the tutuoral is skittle nails! Fun!
For mine, I chose a Memorial Day theme to honor the men and women who've died while serving in our country's armed forces. And while choosing my polishes, I took a look back and 'remembered' some of my older polishes. Index to Pinky: Orly Star Spangled, Lynnderella Snow Angel (an original franken from before she sold polish), China Glaze Dorothy Who, and China Glaze OMG.

I've had a lot fun with this group and would love it if you joined us! You do not need to be a blogger or have a social media presence. Just bring yourself and your polish! :)

Lumina Lacquer: Luck O' the Irish

I love a chunky glitter and green is one of my favorite colors so I absolutely could not pass up this green glitter bomb from Lumina Lacquer!
Luck O' The Irish has clovers, stars, gold coins, green coins, green hexes and micro glitter. A lot of those glitters are holo so there's a rainbow in the bottle too!
How perfect for St. Patrick's day, yes?

No fishing with this glitter at all; Lumina Lacquers are amazing like that. I wore one coat over Elevation Cuernos del Paine.
