Polish Pickup: Urban Legends (part 2)

Urban Legends inspired polishes at Polish Pickup release on October 4 at 10am central and the pre-order ends on October 7. I have a nice sampling here, but do look around the facebook group and other blogs to see more of what is being offered!

1850 Artisan Lacquer Earthquake Weather
A smokey, blackened burgundy that leans slightly toward dark brown and has shifts from golden to burgundy and purple. Topped with iridescent multichrome flakies shifting from gold to green and red.

This enigmatic color is inspired by the Earthquake Weather urban legend popular in Southern California which says that unusually warm weather without any wind is a sign that an earthquake is imminent.
Cap 150

This one is a morhper! In some lighting it looks burgundy and in others brown. I like the smokey effect of this polish! Shown is two coats with topcoat.

Great Lakes Lacquer Nessy
A sea green filled with a silvery green to blue shifting shimmer.
No Cap

The silvery shifting shimmer is super reflective! In some lighting this polish leans more teal and in others more blue. Shown is two coats with topcoat. One thick coat may suffice, as this is fairly opaque.

Literary Lacquers This Dish is Cheap Yet Tasty
Amy's inspiration is from her favorite urban legend which has a few variations. In the older version, a woman loved the Chinese characters on her menu so much that she knitted them into a sweater. In the newer version, it's a tattoo, but the end result is the same. The unsuspecting woman finds out much later that her sweater/tattoo says "This Dish is Cheap Yet Tasty." The color is inspired by Amy's best friend and her obsession with anything Magenta.
No cap

This hue is a favorite of mine, somewhere in between hot pink and purple, very berry and I am loving the linear holo rainbow! Shown is one coat with topcoat.

Each polish is shown in two coats with topcoat. The formula was good on each of them. Some of the heavier glitter finishes were slightly thicker, if you like a more fluid polish just add a few drops of thinner.

Veiled in Roses – Rosy pink packed with holographic and opalescent microglitter
Inspired by the Spring Court’s beautiful manor house, an alabaster estate covered in roses and ivy, surrounded by meadows and forests in a perpetual springtime.

High Lady of Winter – Soft grey holo with white, silver, and blue flakies
This polish, inspired by the frozen Winter Court, is a little shout out to the fandom and Vivianne, may her voice be heard

Sunstone Palace – Delicate metallic that shifts from copper to rose
The books’ action only visits the Dawn court for a short period of time, but the description of the breathtaking palace inspired this lacquer

I think this polish has a few large flakes in it, as I can see that sort of shape on a few nails.

LE Gift with $50 purchase (pre-shipping) – Starfall

Deep navy holo with microglitter and opalescent green flakes
Amy really wanted to call this polish My Other Ride is an Illyrian Warrior, but she decided to go with the more sedate Starfall. Starfall is a holiday celebrated in the Winter Court on a night where star spirits migrate across the sky.
If you want a My Other Ride is an Illyrian Warrior name label, let her know in your order notes and she’ll hook you up!

My favorites of this collection are Autumn Fire and the LE, Starfall. Starfall has a very similar finish as her Rebecca trio from 2014.

Literary Lacquers: As You Wish Valentine Trio

Literary Lacquers was inspired this month by the Princess Bride book. Amy, the artisan behind the brand, created two new core shades plus a limited edition glitter topper which will launch on February 2 at 2pm Central. The three polishes are known as the 'As You Wish' valentine trio. While I have not personally read the book or seen the movie, I am definitely a fan of these polishes!

Princess Buttercup
A white matte polish dotted with light pink glitter and shimmer for an overall pinkish effect on the nail. It is a bit sheer, so I used three coats for photos. The formula was fantastic, not streaky or clumpy at all. I've shown it below both ways - in its original matte finish, and with a glossy topcoat.

The Man in Black
A black matte polish dotted with pink glitters, shimmers and coppery flake. The formula was smooth and easy to apply. I wore two coats for the photos and am also showing it with a glossy top coat and heart on each nail from the glitter topper.

Mawage - Limited Edition for sale through Feb.
A clear based glitter topper with holo silver and pink hex glitter and pink heart-shaped glitters. There are plenty of hearts in this polish, but they will settle since they are heavier. A quick fix is to prop the bottle upside down for a few minutes so they settle nearer the top. I had no issues getting hearts out once they were nearer the top. I used four coats because I wanted to see how it looked without a base color. I quite like it, but in hindsight I think I'd sponge it on instead when wearing it without a base color.
