The FTC requires disclosure "If your audience thinks that what you say or otherwise communicate about a product reflects your opinions or beliefs about the product, and you have a relationship with the company marketing the product, it’s an endorsement subject to the FTC Act."

I've complied with the FTC Act from my blog's beginning in 2009.
Because of the attention to the FTC Act (11/2019), I decided to further define disclosures that I use or may use.

Gifted, Giveaway Prize
Not necessary to disclose but sometimes I do anyway. It means that I received a free product with no expectation from the giver.

Blogger Partner
A prior relationship exists between me and the brand in my review, but I paid full price or received a small discount for the product.

PR, PR Sample, Public Relations Sample, Press Sample, Free product received
A relationship with the brand exists where I received free product from the brand in exchange for a service from me.

Sponsored, Promotion, Advertisement, Paid for Review, or Ad
I received payment and likely the product from a brand for a service from me.

Regardless of my relationships with brands of products I review, I promise to give my honest opinion based on my experience with the product.
I will never publish an opinion that is written out by the advertiser. All opinions on this blog are my own, and you can count on that.

Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer or provider.

In a nutshell, the intention and spirit of the FTC Act is truth in advertising. IE: to ensure that the audience is aware of relationships between parties when any endorsement is given. The FTC does not generally monitor bloggers, but I felt it necessary to use disclosures and be transparent.
