“I’ve got a box of matches in my pocket, Fiona, and I’m just dying to light this fire.” -Myrtle Snow, American Horror Story: Coven

Dying to Light This Fire
an orange jelly base packed full of various color-shifting iridescent flakes, red/orange ultra chameleon chrome flakes, silver galaxy glitter, and Aurora pigment that shifts between purple, copper, and green.

I was a little unsure whether I would like this one but after putting it on it wowed me. It's like fire on your nails! Two coats shown with topcoat.

Castiel: Dean, are you okay? How do you feel?
Dean Winchester: Like my insides just got flame-broiled. Is that normal?
Rowena: Sweetie, we’re so far past normal.
-Supernatural, Season 11, Episode 23

So Far Past Normal
a royal purple jelly accented with silver holo flakes, blue to purple multichrome shimmer, blue/purple/red ultra chameleon chrome flakes, and green/purple shifting iridescent flakes.

Purrrrrrrrrrple, yes! I wore this for almost a week. It wears like iron ya'll. Two coats shown with topcoat.

“One dose, and the time works to the second. But more than five doses breaks the delay barrier, and the formula works instantly. Child... starts to shrink. The child... starts to... grow fur. Starts... growing a tail! All this happens in precisely twenty-five seconds! Shrinking more... child is no longer a child. Child… is a MOUSE!” -The Grand High Witch, Roald Dahl’s “The Witches”

Child is a MOUSE!
a murky teal jelly that features copper/red/gold/green shifting iridescent flakes, pink/red/green shifting iridescent flakes, and holographic silver flakies.

Super dark teal after building in two coats. I didn't try it, but if worn over a nude or maybe even white, you could have two or three different looks with this one polish! Two coats shown with topcoat.

“What a tacky shop. I’ve never seen such tacky little hats, yet you are by far the tackiest thing in here.” -The Witch of the Waste, “Howl’s Moving Castle”

Such Tacky Little Hats
a holographic, bright teal crelly that is accented with a strong, pink/green shifting Aurora shimmer and pink/green ultra chameleon chrome flakes.

Like a rainbow in a mirror, very reflective and holo! The flakes are like the icing on the cake for this polish, it couldn't get any better than this! Two coats shown with topcoat.

a multichrome that shifts between rose gold, copper, green, and purple, filled with copper/red/gold/green shifting iridescent flakes and purple/pink/green iridescent shifting flakes.

Ok, I am totally dubbing this as Mama Unicorn. Look at that color shift! Red, Green, Amber, Gold, even some pink! Wowza! What a standout! Two coats shown with topcoat.

Jadis, also known as The White Witch, is the main antagonist in C.S. Lewis’ “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe”. She has brought a never ending snow to the lands of Narnia, making it always winter and never Christmas during the Hundred Years Winter. She is descended of Adam’s first wife, Lilith, and the giants. Jadis lives for over 1,000 years and amplifies her powers by eating the Fruit of Everlasting Life

Fruit of Everlasting Life
a silver-tinted jelly that can be worn as a topper or alone in several coats. She is filled with various types of color-shifting iridescent flakes that flash pink, purple, orange, and blue, holographic silver flakes, and blue/purple Aurora shimmer.

Three coats for opacity and SO SO worth it! I am excited to wear this over so many other colors!

September Year of Tarot
Don’t be alarmed! If you draw the card of Death, it is not always as you think; on the contrary, it can be one of the most fruitful and positive cards in the deck! Death is symbolic of the ending of a major phase in your life that may bring about the beginning of something far more valuable and important. You must close one door in order to open another. It may be difficult to let go of the past, but you will soon see how important it is so that you can bring renewal and transformation into your life.

Death
a blue-based multichrome that also shifts to green and purple. She is filled with silver holo micro shreds, holographic violet micro glitter, and scattered holographic pigment.

Shifty little wench, extra photos cause she's worth it. Two coats shown with topcoat.

OPI: My Private Jet 2007 and 2018

I saw today on facebook that OPI My Private Jet is back and I rushed right out to get one!
I was so excited about comparing it to my original bottles from the Night Brights Spring 2007 collection, that I had to share the results right away.

First a bottles shot. The 2007 bottle nearest the light source on the right is not mixed well and appears to be slightly more holo then the other. The bottle on the far left was purchased on the same day from the same store and is mixed much better. The middle bottle is the new 2018 Infinite Shine version.

xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2007 and 2018

First a look at the original from the Night Brights Spring 2007 collection. This little guy has quite the history behind it. It is a linear holographic jelly with either a charcoal or brown base. Fans saw both color variants, and believe there are two color versions of the linear holo polish. It could also be how we perceive the color from person to person or even the lighting used to view the bottle. For me, the ones I have look brown, with holo and copper shimmer.

At some point soon after launch, OPI completely changed the formula and finish, kept the same name and wouldn't admit that a linear holo version existed. You can see a comparison at My Simple Pleasures of the original and the second iteration.

xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2007

There's a peek at the copper shimmer in the bottle there!

xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2007
xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2007

Below is the new 2018 version from the Infinite Shine series. It is most definitely holographic, however it is set in a creamier base which tends to hide the holo and coppery shimmer.

xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2018
xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2018
xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2018

As you can see in this next photo, when the top layer of cream is brushed off with acetone and then topcoated; the shimmer and holo really come through in a lovely way on the top nail, the bottom nail is not brushed with acetone and appears muddy or blurred from the creamy base. While this is not exactly like the original, I feel that if thinned out or brushed over with acetone, it comes pretty darned close.

xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2018

Below are side by side comparisons of them along with their bottles. My pinky and middle finger are the 2007 version, the others are 2018. When these are on the nail at real life size, the difference in base color is hardly noticeable. The difference that you will notice most at real life size, is the vibrancy of the holo rainbow. Never fear though, a little swipe of acetone and top coat will reveal its inner beauty.

Each swatch is shown with two coats and no topcoat except for the one photo where I mentioned topcoat. I absolutely love them both, and think that the new version would be so very close if it were in a more translucent base - or brushed over with acetone and topcoated. (gah the copper shimmer in it is amazing!)

If you missed the original or have had a lemming for it, I think the 2018 version may satisfy that. I would recommend getting it in person so you can make certain the formula is holo.
In the store, I shined my phone light on the bottle since the lighting there is lacking for holos.

I hope you've enjoyed this impromptu post and deviation from indie brands. My passion for polish was heightened when I got my hands on this one sometime in 2008 or 2009 so it was a bit nostalgic when I heard there was a new version.

I've fallen in love with it all over again. :)
