OPI: Give Me Space

How is everyone holding up?

Are you used to being home most of the time and enjoying it? Yay!
Stressed out and needing to talk? I'm here for you. :)
Are you finding new and creative things to do? I'd love to know them!

Here's a sparkly distraction in the meantime! OPI Give Me Space is from the 2015 Starlight | Holiday Collection.
I wore this polish in early January and came across the photos in my camera and thought the name was appropriate. It's a beautifully blue sparkling polish, shown is two coats with glossy topcoat.

OPI: My Private Jet 2007 and 2018

I saw today on facebook that OPI My Private Jet is back and I rushed right out to get one!
I was so excited about comparing it to my original bottles from the Night Brights Spring 2007 collection, that I had to share the results right away.

First a bottles shot. The 2007 bottle nearest the light source on the right is not mixed well and appears to be slightly more holo then the other. The bottle on the far left was purchased on the same day from the same store and is mixed much better. The middle bottle is the new 2018 Infinite Shine version.

xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2007 and 2018

First a look at the original from the Night Brights Spring 2007 collection. This little guy has quite the history behind it. It is a linear holographic jelly with either a charcoal or brown base. Fans saw both color variants, and believe there are two color versions of the linear holo polish. It could also be how we perceive the color from person to person or even the lighting used to view the bottle. For me, the ones I have look brown, with holo and copper shimmer.

At some point soon after launch, OPI completely changed the formula and finish, kept the same name and wouldn't admit that a linear holo version existed. You can see a comparison at My Simple Pleasures of the original and the second iteration.

xoxoJen's swatch of OPI: My Private Jet 2007

There's a peek at the copper shimmer in the bottle there!

Below is the new 2018 version from the Infinite Shine series. It is most definitely holographic, however it is set in a creamier base which tends to hide the holo and coppery shimmer.

As you can see in this next photo, when the top layer of cream is brushed off with acetone and then topcoated; the shimmer and holo really come through in a lovely way on the top nail, the bottom nail is not brushed with acetone and appears muddy or blurred from the creamy base. While this is not exactly like the original, I feel that if thinned out or brushed over with acetone, it comes pretty darned close.

Below are side by side comparisons of them along with their bottles. My pinky and middle finger are the 2007 version, the others are 2018. When these are on the nail at real life size, the difference in base color is hardly noticeable. The difference that you will notice most at real life size, is the vibrancy of the holo rainbow. Never fear though, a little swipe of acetone and top coat will reveal its inner beauty.

Each swatch is shown with two coats and no topcoat except for the one photo where I mentioned topcoat. I absolutely love them both, and think that the new version would be so very close if it were in a more translucent base - or brushed over with acetone and topcoated. (gah the copper shimmer in it is amazing!)

If you missed the original or have had a lemming for it, I think the 2018 version may satisfy that. I would recommend getting it in person so you can make certain the formula is holo.
In the store, I shined my phone light on the bottle since the lighting there is lacking for holos.

I hope you've enjoyed this impromptu post and deviation from indie brands. My passion for polish was heightened when I got my hands on this one sometime in 2008 or 2009 so it was a bit nostalgic when I heard there was a new version.

I've fallen in love with it all over again. :)

Very pretty dusty rose color, with a touch of purple. I really enjoyed wearing this color this week. On Friday (several days after I took this photo), I topped it with SH Hidden Treasure and its really pretty when it flashes green. :D

Added Hidden Treasure over my mani, and I am loving it!

Dang my nails grow fast, look at that gap! This is about ten days of growth from first painting. o.o
If you compare this photo with the one taken of just Steady as She Rose, you can see a difference still - which is about five days. The SASR photo was shot around three days or so after mani.

APAW 46/52 OPI Black Shatter

Brand: OPI
Color: Black Shatter
Coats: one
Application: Easy
Finish: Crackle
Base Coat: Instant Artificials
Top Coat: Seche Vite
Wear: one week, no chips just tipwear
Purchased From: JcPenney
My Polish Spreadsheet

Black Shatter is still fairly new and hard to find, its selling out all over because its endorsed by Katy Perry. If you can't find it and want a black crackle, look for the China Glaze Crackles, they released more colors than just black. I just picked mine up at Sally's about two days ago.

xoxoJen's swatch of OPI Sparkle-icious

Brand: OPI
Color: Sparkle-icious
Coats: 4
Application: like any other glitter
Finish: glitter
Base Coat: Instant Artificials
Top Coat: Seche Vite
Wear: really well so far! 5 days no chips. :)
Purchased From: Admiral Beauty Supply

This polish release date is late October or early November but I found the whole Burlesque collection at my local beauty supply. -angels singing- I had decided I wanted this one before I saw it in person, and I picked up another one called Show It and Glow It, its more pink/fucshia colored glitter like this one. I absolutely love it and have worn it all week. Very little tipwear and no chips. Wearing like iron!

I've been slacking on mani photo uploading. this one's a week late because I've been working 12 hour days. I'm exhausted when I get home and just couldn't bring myself to edit and upload the photo I took last Sunday, til now. So exhausted, and its time for me to find some dinner! (yep at 9pm, ugh)

Oh and bye bye long nails, hello nubbins! I cut them because they were just getting too long to type with. I think I cut them a bit shorter than usual so now I'm letting them grow out again. xD

I thought I'd try doing square nail tips this time and though it took a little getting used to, I think I like them this way!

OPI MPJ Holo is a much sought, very hard to find polish. I have seen it priced over a hundred usd on ebay. I stumbled on mine at a local beauty supply, got both bottles they had in stock. Yay for unexpected finds!

For this nail art I used painter's tape to get the straight lines. This is the first time I've done nail art, and although it was difficult and time consuming, I'm quite pleased with the results!

Application was quite globby, I nearly gave up on it but when it dried I couldn't even see the brush strokes. Go figure!

OPI - Hawaiian Orchid

xoxoJen's swatch of OPI - Hawaiian Orchid

This is a very sheer pink, at least four coats in this photo. The color wouldn't photograph right so I had to do a little photoshopping. It's still not exact, the pink is a really soft feminine pink. I think I have it too bright or something in this photo.
It has a purplish iridescence to it when the light hits it just right.
