LynB Designs: Heros Come In All Sizes (PCRF Kids charity)

Christina, a member of the nail community, has rallied the makers to launch charity polishes all during the same time frame. The polish sales will benefit relevant charities that each maker chooses.

Christina's goal is to raise awareness of the importance of donating tissue, bone marrow, eyes, blood, etc., registering yourself to do it, and helping us all familiarize with multiple charities of which the makers will donate funds to. Christina created a facebook group where we can all gather to read stories about personal experiences, share a variety of charities the makers are supporting, and raise awareness in our nail community.

On September 13, LynB Designs is releasing a polish to benefit a charity that is near and dear to many of our community members. Five dollars ($5) for each polish sold will be given to pcrf-kids.org.

All photography uses a neutral color temperature bulb and white background with white bounce card. My nails are natural with no enhancements and no blurring/cream base, I have a fairly prominent VNL.

Let Life Bloom- a sheer blue base with pink to red shifting shimmer, holo flakies, and pink to green shifting flakies. This polish is jam packed with flake, as you can see in just two coats it just about covers my prominent nail line.

For Charity: October Quarterly Collaboration Box

xoxoJen's photo of Charity Box

The box is packed with carefully curated items from a variety of indie brands & companies. All proceeds from sales are donated to the charitable organization chosen for the quarter. The very first box is launching Saturday and the proceeds will be donated to BCRF. BCRF donates 91 cents of every dollar towards breast cancer research and awareness programs.

I've included descriptions/inspirations from each Artisan for their products and then added my comments afterward.

Storybook Scents (Wax Clamshell) - "Sammie Anne" My grandmother is one of those people that when she walks in the room you feel like you're home. She is amazing, strong, beautiful, an entrepreneur, and the most loving person one could hope to meet. This tart is my take on her all-time favorite scent, Flowerbomb. Notes include marshmallow, vanilla, jasmine, freesia, & woody musk. Sammie Anne has been in remission from stage 3 breast cancer for about 10 years now, and I couldn’t admire her more for her bravery during that time. We love you Grammie!

I'm unfamiliar with the Flowerbomb scent, but I think the wax melt smelled great! I used two cubes from the clamshell in my plate warmer and it was strong the first two days I melted it. After that, it gradually got more lightly scented. I enjoyed melting it and its bright pink color!

First Sunday (Breast Cancer Awareness Keychain) - A beautiful embroidered keychain, lovingly donated by Jana Oglesby from First Sunday.

Jana resides about 30 minutes from me, we've even met once in person to swap some wax and talk polish. She is a seamstress and sews up such creative cute items. The key chain is well made and durable and includes a snap in case you want to attach it to something different! Help raise awareness by rocking it on your keychain or back pack!

Daphine Polish (Nail Polish) - "Electric Rose" A neon rose pink packed with pink, peach, and gold micro shimmers. Two to three coats to opacity depending on nail length and application. This polish is dedicated to my mother, my aunts, and my grandmother, all strong Irish roses who were affected by breast cancer.

Pink and sparkly and such a great polish to help raise awareness for those around you! I wore three coats for the photos, the formula was smooth and easy to apply.

Creekside Naturals (Foot Balm) - "Grandma Mary Lou" The World's Best Grandma: my mother-in-law has been gone way too long. We miss her so. She loved the great outdoors "barefoot," so this balm is the perfect choice. She would have loved it! The scent is peppermint, which reminds us of the holiday she loved. My husband and I wish to thank you for supporting the cause ~ Jim & Cindee Smith

Handmade Natural Beauty (Foaming Sugar Scrub) - "Almond Vanilla Berry,” my specialty Pink Ribbon scent dedicated to women everywhere to promote breast cancer awareness and support brave breast cancer survivors.

Udder Joy (Goat Milk Soap) - "Bliss" I chose this fragrance as it's one of my mother's favorites. She is a survivor of breast cancer; it has been a long road, but after a double mastectomy, she has been cancer-free for two years. Bliss is a lovely blend of sweet cherry, toasted coconut, and crushed almond on a background of warm vanilla bean and creamed sugar.

The foot balm is absolutely wonderful. I've used it on my cuticles, elbows and feet for a week and I can certainly feel a difference. It's a heavy balm, but it doesn't feel as greasy or oily as most of them do. It seems to absorb fairly quickly and it smells wonderful. The natural butter scents come through with a slight hint of peppermint.

The sugar scrub is very scrubby and a little bit foamy. I tried it on my legs before shaving and they were smooth and soft as baby's cheek after!

The bar soap feels so soft and the foam from it is slightly pink! It leaves my skin feeling clean and the scent is soft and feminine. It goes really well with the scrub scent too!

In addition to all the above items, a list of coupon codes from many other independent artisan businesses will be enclosed in each box.

The box is launching Saturday October 24, at 11am Central time at the Storybook Scents online store.

Literary Lacquer: Luggage For Your Journey

Sir Terry Pratchett Inspires Limited Edition Nail Polish as Fundraiser for Alzheimer's Research UK
October 6, 2014

Sir Terry Pratchett is a literary pioneer. From his first book, The Carpet People in 1971, through his most recent 2014 release, Dragons at Crumbling Castle, Sir Pratchett continuously takes his readers out of their realities and brings them into new, fantastical worlds. His books (including those of Discworld, The Long Earth and everywhere in between) are an escape from the mundane, a thought-provoking journey and a study in foreign lands and experiences. Sir Pratchett's writings include fiction, nonfiction and fantasy for adults, young adults and children. There are several movie and radio adaptations of his works and a Discworld app, in which readers and fans can roam the streets and interact with its patrons. And at age 64, Sir Pratchett continues to delight readers with new works.

Literary Lacquers, founded by Amy Milder in 2012, is an innovative independent nail polish company . Amy's passion for literature, beauty and nail polish drive her creativity and business; all of her polishes are inspired by great literary works, passages and series. Literary lacquer polishes are all 3-free and are packaged and shipped with 100% recyclable materials (https://www.etsy.com/shop/LiteraryLacquer).

In 2007, Sir Pratchett announced to the world that he is living and writing with early onset Alzheimer's, or as he refers to it "The Embuggerance". Instead of ceasing his creativity and publicity, Sir Pratchett became a financial donor and guest blogger on Alzheimer's Research UK, and continues to write and interact with fans via social media. Earlier this year marked the first time that Sir Pratchett cancelled a public appearance due to the effects of The Embuggerance.

To honor Sir Pratchett's work and his charity work with Alzheimer's Research UK, Literary Lacquers has designed a limited edition charity polish, Luggage For Your Journey. In the Discworld novels, The Luggage is a recurring character that travels, protects (at times voraciously) and accompanies the wizard Rincewind. The Luggage is otherworldly, and yet becomes integral into the fabric of Discworld. This polish is designed to honor Sir Terry Pratchett's amazing literary career, to thank him for the journey into other realms and to serve as a reminder that there is always a companion for life's many journeys.

The bottles of Luggage For Your Journey will be sold for $12 and $5 from each bottle will be donated to Alzheimer's Research UK. The polish will be sold as a preorder only from October 10, 2014 through October 17, 2014.

My late grandfather had Alzheimer's so this cause is near and dear to my heart. I'm most grateful to those of you who purchase this polish and donate while doing so.

G ve Life

That is what 13 year old Taylor Storch was able to do, and you should too.

Paint it Forward! is part of the Taylor's gift campaign for organ donation awareness. Traci shared the page with me and when I read the story I knew I had to donate and spread the word. I think that the Storch's have a very important message to share so I've quoted some things from their webpage for this post. Today is not just about nails but more importantly, about giving life.

Taylor Blue is a gorgeous teal blue crelly which is opaque in just two coats. I've stamped the accent nail with Vivid Lacquer plate VL001 and Essence Stamp Me White.

Taylor’s Gift Foundation is dedicated to a life changing mission to increase organ donation to regift life, renew health and restore families. By focusing on increasing certified organ donations in the United States and worldwide, the foundation has become a positive force in changing the conversation about organ donation: Outlive Yourself.

In March 2010, thirteen-year-old Taylor Storch's life was tragically cut short by a skiing accident. With only a few minutes to consider their options, her grieving family made the life-changing decision to donate her organs. Knowing Taylor's caring spirit, they were sure this was what she would have wanted. Over the course of the next two years, Tara and Todd Storch connected with four of the five people who now live because of Taylor's gift. And through these encounters, the Storches have discovered unexpected blessings that are changing countless lives.
If you want to read more of their story, the book is available at the retailers listed on their webpage here. They also host a lot of events; some coming up in Naperville, IL and the Dallas, TX area soon.

In this video, Taylor's parents were able to meet Patricia, the recipient of Taylor's heart.

So wear your heart on your hands, show your true colors and Give Life!
